She has been knitting for 9 years and crocheting for 8 years. She opened up her Etsy shop a little after Bubs turned one in 2017 so she could sell finished products. Within a year she realized her heart is in designing. She loves coming up with fun and unique patterns for little ones. She also sells Ramadan-inspired products seasonally which can be found in her Etsy shop.
As of last year, she has designed a total of 21 patterns, many of them Tunisian crochet! You can find her digital patterns on Etsy, Ravelry, and LoveCrafts.com. She also uploads regular knitting and crochet tutorials on her YouTube channel. Today she will be sharing how to make a yarn pom pom garland in 5 steps!

What is a Pom Maker and Where Can I Get One?
The pom maker is a tool that is used for making pom poms. The pom pom maker used in this tutorial is made by a company called Clover. It comes in sizes extra small, small, large, and extra-large. The large size was used for this tutorial. The finished size of each pom is approximately 2.5 inches. You can find this pom pom maker at your local craft store, Amazon (linked in the materials), or directly from Clover.
Yarn selection
Go with bright colors that match your kid’s room or choose a more neutral palette. The best thing about making a pom pom garland is that it will go with any room/any type of decor in your home. You can even hold two strands of different yarns together to get a cool multicolor effect. You can even add some gold thread to add a festive touch like the black and gold poms shown below!
Step 1: Wrap
A general rule to remember is that if you use a thinner yarn, you’ll need to wrap more times to get a fuller and thicker pom. If you use a thicker yarn, you’ll need to wrap less times. The first step is to wrap the yarn around each open end of the pom-pom maker. When using a medium-size yarn, I prefer to wrap around each side approximately six times going from one end to the other end and back again. Repeat wrapping across going back and forth a total of 6 times. When you are done wrapping cut the yarn leaving 3 to 6 extra inches. Then wrap and pull the yarn through the last wrap-around. Repeat this step on the opposite side.
Step 2: Cut
Go through and cut along the middle groove of each side with a pair of sharp scissors. Be careful with the scissors! If your kids are helping you make the pom poms, you may want to assist them with this part. It’s important to hold the pom maker firmly so the pom doesn’t become undone. Repeat this step on the opposite side.
Step 3: Tie
Wrap a medium-sized piece (12 in.) of yarn around the center of the pom. This part is very important. Tie the piece of yarn around the center tightly. Make sure to pull tightly. To make the pom more secure repeat a second time. It is important that you tie tightly so the pom doesn’t come apart.
Step 4: Remove & Trim
Disassemble the pom maker completely and remove the pom. Trim the extra-long pieces sticking out of the pom to give a more round effect! Trim the piece you used to tie a knot around the center to the size of the rest of the pom. This part can seem scary but don’t worry just trim a little bit. It doesn’t have to be perfect! Remember that poms are meant to be fun and it’s okay if they are not perfectly round!
Step 5: Assemble
Before you assemble the pom pom garland, make sure you take some measurements. Measure out the length of the area where you would like to hang the pom pom garland. Adding a couple of inches to this measurement, cut a piece of yarn that matches this length. Using the yarn needle, weave the piece through the center of each pom until all pom poms are woven onto the yarn. Space the pom poms out to your liking and hang as you would like.
That’s it, you’re done! You can decorate any space in your home from the nursery to the living room!
